Making post cons

On tour one, both the Dis Linear and SCF Linear supervisors are supposed to be sending a crew of the three junior employees out to the South Deck to make post cons. But this isn't always happening, and on most nights over the last week no one is assigned to make post cons until a PS1767 is submitted by employees who realize and know it is unsafe to make post cons with less than three employees. In the mean time emplyees from both sides of the machine are going out to the deck and making post cons alone because they feel it's their job to supply themselves with equipment regardless of the risks.

We need to understand that it is management's job to supply us with the equipment to do our jobs safely. If we have no post cons because these two supervisors don't want to give up people to make them, we should never be working in an unsafe manner to compensate for their failures. If our run outs are stacked with mail because there is no equipment, it's the supervisors problem and his responsibility to correct it. There have been numerous injuries to employees making post cons even when there are three of them, so less than three just increases the odds of you getting injured. Not to mention that when a supervisor or MDO see you, and they woke up on the wrong side of the bed, you leave yourself open to discipline.

It's never worth working unsafely.

Making Post-Cons

I agree... In order to prevent any confusions on the amount of mail handlers required to "make post-cons." This Union has brought this matter to the attention of management and it has been mutually agreed to "post a visible sign on the South Platform " stating the required staffing of 3-employees. Hopefully the sign will avoid any mis-understandings.

It would also be helpful if all the employees assigned to make the post cons actually stayed on their assignment.

no less than three

It's a daily occurrence on tour three i see it all the time.
ive even seen a mail handler ask a clerk to stand in the truck while he/she
made the post con by themself. one tour three mail handler is out for more than
a year because he was making a postcon by himself and another unmade fell on him. is it worth it i don't think so. number one it is for your own protection that it was agreed you need three people to make a postcon. number two if you get hurt do you think management is gonna feel sorry for you, no they will probably give you a letter for not following proper safety rules. if the supervisor tells you to make post cons alone remind them of the three person rule if they dont comply ask for a steward, dont put yourself at risk for anyone.
